Interview of Joerg, Founder of TallWomen.org

I was lucky enough to interview Joerg, founder of the best resource site about Tall Women : the aptly named TallWomen.org. Enjoy his very interesting answers to my questions (version française, cliquez ici) :

1/ Joerg, in 10 years, you have managed to make TallWomen.org the utlimate online resource for tall women. What got you started?

I met the first tall woman I fancied (6′2 1/2″ - 189cm) Anette in 1983.

When I first came online back in 1997 I searched the internet for “tall women”
websites. There were a few commercial sites that were featuring what I would call “fetish models” but no websites dedicated to tall women and their needs.

I always felt tall ladies need clothes and shoes that fit first and foremost so I set up with own website using free webspace from Tripod.

2/ What are the main sections of your website?

As far as I know the sections being looked at the most are “Famous Tall Women“, “Tall(est) Models” and “The Tallest Known Living Women“.

Most of the comments I receive from tall women focus on the Clothes and Shoes sections though.

3/ Clothing and Shoes take up a lot of place on your site? Why so?

As I stated above… nothing has more importance to the ladies visiting my website.

Women love to shop for clothing and footwear and taller women usually have a hard time finding items that fit.

4/ Are there many European online boutiques that offer stylish clothes for tall women?

There are a few like Long Tall Sally but none of them can compete with big US companies like Buckle or Alloy.

5/ Do most of your visitors come from the US?

The stats say they do. A lot of visitors are from Germany as well which surprises me because the website is English only these days.

6/ What kind of feedback do you get from your readers?

Well, it’s a mix.

Women usually ask me to help them with their clothing issues, whereas men (and I tend to receive a lot of emails from men) mainly want me to help them find a tall woman to date.

7/ Joerg, did you actually open the site TallWomen.org to find a tall girlfriend?
Seriously speaking, what kind of dating advice would you give to a tall lady who would like to find her match?

Nothing wrong with meeting new people if you ask me. I’ve met a lot of wonderful ladies through my website and I think a lot of women appreciate what I am doing. It hasn’t harmed my reputation whatsoever. On the contrary.

I’d tell the woman to be open-minded. I can understand why a tall woman would prefer to date a tall(er) man but the taller you are the less likely you are to find such a man. Most really tall women (6′5″ - 196cm) and above are at peace with that and are ready to go out with shorter men. Don’t limit yourself or your choice by being “heightist” would be my advice.

8/ Could you tell us about Sandy Allen and her special place in your heart?

Sadly I’ve never met Sandy in person. It was supposed to happen last October but it didn’t materialise because the people from the nursing home in
Shelbyville, Indiana didn’t call us back.

From what her long-time friend Rita Rose has told me (and from what I’ve read and seen elsewhere) Sandy was a special woman who - inspite of her own problems - was always trying to help others. That’s an attitude that cannot be recommended highly enough.

9/ One last word?

Since I believe most of your readers to be tall females let me finish by accentuating the positive. When I first started my website there were hardly any online stores catering for tall women. Nowadays the list of dedicated shops is quite impressive.

To your “older” readers: Stay positive and try to be a role-model for younger women. To your younger readers: You are in a wonderful position.

Unless you are 2 Meters tall (or over) you should be able to find beautiful clothes and shoes that fit. There are thousands of tall women out there and most of them enjoy their height.
